Project: Ok Tedi Integrated Waste Management Strategy

Client: Ok Tedi Mine Limited (OTML)

Location: Papua New Guinea

Services Provided: Strategic Advice on Waste Management

Project Details:
OTML operate a gold and copper mine in Western Provence, PNG. OTML were concerned the current systemsand facilities in place to manage non mining waste across both its operations, mining support facilities and township were below an acceptable standard. The client was seeking a step change improvement to managing waste to ensure a postive legacy could be left in the region following the closure of the mining operations. KMH conducted a detailed review of all existing waste management activities including undertaking a detailed waste audit of all waste streams. This in-depth data gathering exercise then enabled us to map waste flows and identify opportunities to improve the current practices. KMH then developed a comprehensive waste management plan with a series of recommendations that provided details for improving the collection, disposal, treatment and diversion of waste from landfill. This plan also lays the foundation for OTML to consider using waste as an energy source, therefore freeing up valuable diesel required to operate mining trucks. KMH also included advice on the required infrastructure and materials procurement for delivering the actions in the implementation plan.
