Client: Sydney Water
Location: Sydney Metropolitan Area, NSW
Services Provided: Constraints Identification and Route Selection
The NetWorks Alliance was formed by Sydney Water to provide integrated design-construction of watermain renewals and other water infrastructure. KMH leads the environmental and sustainability management function of the Alliance. In this role, KMH is directly responsible for environmental planning and assessment, provision of environmental input to design, and provision of construction environmental management.
Recently, KMH played an integral role in the assessment of a number of design scenarios for delivery of critical sewer infrastructure required to service the ‘Balmoral Road Urban Release Area’ development at Baulkham Hills, NSW. KMH assessed each of the proposed design options, and identified the likely environmental constraints associated with each design. Effective team communication and numerous workshops with the Alliance and Sydney Water enabled KMH to understand and assess each option. Following assessment, KMH presented its assessment and analysis of each option to Sydney Water, in regards to technical feasibility, as well as degree of residual impact to the surrounding community and environment. From these workshops, the preferred design was selected and KMH subsequently prepared a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) for Sydney Water. The PEA outlined the likely environmental constraints to be encountered on the project, and detail the planning approval pathway relevant to the preferred design. KMH will shortly deliver the Review of Environmental Factors for the project and obtain all necessary environmental approvals required for the project to commence.
