Apple and Pear Australia Limited taking a bite out of energy costs for the Temperate Fruit industry

Apples and Pears

KMH Environmental has partnered with Apple and Pear Australia Limited (APAL) to successfully win an Energy Efficiency Information Grant (EEIG) project under the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

This project will deliver a national, fact-based, practical learning program to assist Australia’s apple, pear, summerfruit and cherry industry (known as the Temperate Fruit industry) to understand how to reduce energy use and operating costs.

The industry has approximately 2,600 small to medium enterprises (SMEs). KMH will be conducting energy audits at 30 representative SMEs across Australia to acquire the knowledge to develop case studies and facts sheets that will be distributed to the wider industry via seminars and media publications.

This project has the potential to assist the Temperate Fruit industry by:

  • Reducing energy usage by approximately 200,000 MWh per year
  • Reducing GHG emissions by approximately 225,000 tonnes CO2-e per year
  • Saving the industry approximately $25.5M per year
  • Reducing the load on local electricity distribution networks and
  • Increasing the competiveness of the industry.
