Project: Alcoa Red Sand Due Diligence Audit

Client: Alcoa

Location: Western Australia

Services Provided: Due Diligence Audit and Peer Review

Project Details:
Alcoa operates three bauxite refining operations in Western Australia.  A major waste stream from these operations is red mud (also known as red sand).  Alcoa have proven at pilot plant scale the separation of the red sand fraction and have completed a range of specialist studies designed to support their proposal to provide red sand as a commercial product for use as a fill material for road construction, recreational applications and sporting field top dressing. Alcoa commissioned KMH to conduct a comprehensive peer review and due diligence exercise of the existing risk assessments and specialist studies to provide confidence to senior management that all of the reasonably expected information existed and at a sufficiently robust level. The review and audit allowed senior management to decide on whether to proceed with commercialisation of the product.
