Willoughby City Council undertook one of NSW’s first energy and water audit programs for the common areas of residential apartment buildings to meet its community electricity reduction target. KMH was selected to conduct audits of the common areas of approximately 25 apartment buildings ranging from as few as 12 units to large high-rise complexes containing over 700 apartments. The audits examined all common areas of the building and grounds including lighting, leisure facilities, heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC), central boilers and other common plant.
KMH performed a cost-benefit analysis of options available to reduce energy and water use at each apartment building and prepared a site specific costed action plan for each building, recommending actions that would see a net financial gain in three years or less. The KMH assessed baseline energy and water consumption data were summarised in technical reports for each participating owners’ corporation. The audits identified:
