Project: Birkenhead Bitumen Terminal Emission Treatment Solutions

birkenhead-460x210

Client: The Shell Company of Australia

Location: Birkenhead, South Australia

Services Provided:  Emissions testing and monitoring program, identification of point sources, dispersion modelling, front-end engineering design of collection and treatment system.

Project details:
KMH was engaged by the Shell Company of Australia to undertake a major project at the Birkenhead Bitumen terminal in South Australia. KMH carried out a testing program to identify the activities responsible for odour emissions from the site, and conducted dispersion modelling to estimate off-site effects from these activities. KMH liaised with the South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to determine appropriate mitigation measures for the client. Shell then engaged KMH to design a collection and treatment system, including point source collection, stack dispersion and emission treatment using a thermal oxidiser during ship unloading activities.
