Bin Trim – Diverting 827,000kg of Materials from Landfill
Sydney’s landfill sites are filling up at an extraordinary rate. To combat this, the NSW EPA has developed the Bin Trim program as part of their “Waste Less Recycle More” initiative. Bin Trim is a state government funded program which helps small to medium enterprises (SMEs) reduce waste and increase recycling to decrease their environmental impact. The rising cost of waste management can have immense impacts on individual buildings which can be tempered by introducing more cost effective recycling services.
KMH is targeting a minimum of 300 SMEs as part of the program and will provide them with:
- Two visual waste assessments;
- Tailored action plans; and
- Support to businesses to reduce waste sent to landfill and promote recycling.
As part of this program KMH will also identify whether SMEs require recycling equipment and, if the SME is eligible, will submit a rebate application on behalf of the SME covering up to 50 per cent of the cost of small-scale on-site recycling equipment.
So far KMH have recruited 255 SMEs, completed 255 first assessments, and presented 13 action plans. By the end of the year KMH aims to divert 827,000 kg of materials from landfill.
