KMH was commissioned by Sibelco, an industrial and commercial minerals company, to project manage and physical construct a frog habitat pond at their Sandgate facility. The pond is specifically designed to create habitat for the protected Green and Golden Bell Frogs that curiously love disturbed areas like a disused quarry to a clean, quiet undisturbed area that the other frog species prefer.
In accordance with the approved concept, KMH modified the final design of the approximately 20m x 20m x 1m deep pond to include a steep rock lining to minimise frog predator access and specific species of native reeds, sedges and grasses to encourage frog foraging.
While the majority of the scope of works has been completed by KMH and our subcontractors, we still need to install a spillway, complete final inspection with the client and have the construction signed off by an independent Principal Certifier. Sibelco is to install the sustainable roof runoff water supply to fill the pond.
